Refrigerants for Commercial Air Conditioning

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems keep commercial environments comfortable. For both traditional HVAC and “smart” systems (i.e., ones integrated with building management systems), cooling capacity relies on the efficiency of the refrigerant, the system, and operating conditions.

Thermostats, controls, and sensors use monitored data—such as temperature, humidity, time of day, and occupancy—to automatically regulate ideal cooling conditions.

Older systems may contain the hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) refrigerant R-22. However, more modern systems now use hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants.

Freon refrigerants for commercial air conditioning include:

– freon MO99™ (R-438A)
– freon NU-22B™ (R-422B)
– freon 410A (R-410A)
– freon 134a (R-134a)
– freon MO29 (R-422D)
– freon 407C (R-407C)
